Seeing Dr. Mays at least twice a year for a dental cleaning and exam , ensures that your teeth are professionally cleaned to remove harmful bacteria and to allow your dentist to examine your teeth and mouth. For a child , these appointments are also critical in order to assess development. For adults, the appointments enable us to catch potential issues before they grow into larger problems.

A fluoride treatment is the application of a fluoride solution to the surface of your teeth. This helps to strengthen the enamel, prevent cavities and decrease sensitivity. Fluoride is beneficial for both children and adults.

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, develops when bacteria grows on, and around the teeth and gums. When the bacteria are not removed and left to thrive, it can eventually cause irritation and discomfort in your gums (inflammation and bleeding). This is the early stages of gum disease. Gum disease can be treatable at any stage but can be reversed if caught early.

Dr. Mays offers both in-office and at-home teeth whitening for your convenience. She uses ZOOM! teeth whitening gel for at-home treatments. The gel is placed in a whitening tray, which is then placed over your teeth. This gel works to remove stains from the surface of your teeth, as well as the deeper, second layer called the dentin.
